When We Sleep - The Fish Tail

When We Sleep is an experimental capstone film that deals in 2D, 3D, and Stopmotion. The story follows Tauri as they live out 10 different dreams and nightmares. Because of the time limit and our ambitions, each dream needed to be fully contained within 15 seconds-- establishing the new setting, action, and the transition into the next dream. This interview is with a good friend of our viz-dev lead: his dream is of a normal shift at work, but suddenly everyone he’s ever met floods the restaurant, “The Fish Tail.”

The First pass (left) was intended to use a single drawing with a parallax effect to minimize the strain on the 2D animation team.

the Third pass (above) was boarded with the idea of paper cut-out puppets and designed to use the perspective to maximize the crowded feeling of the dream.
